Week 01 - 3.4.2023

LECTURE

Mr. Fauzi briefed us about the composition studies. By practicing compositions, we will eventually apply the principles into our daily life or design.

From the lecture slides, I discovered a good designer, Magdiel Lopez. Fig 1.1.1 shows some of my favourite works from him. I like how he use the neon colours, it is eye-catching while remaining the colour balancing.

Digital imaging converts the printed text, artwork, and photographs into digital images using a digital scanner or another imaging device.

TIPS for a Graphic Designers!
1. Follow Tutorials
2. Experiment
3. Keyboard Shortcuts
4. Try to replicate other's work
5. Participate design competitions
6. Subscribe online gallery
7. Smart Objects
8. Scaling artworks and proportions
9. Use actions to personalise work
10. Organize files properly

Week 7: Double Exposure
  • refers to merging multiple images
  • making image surreal, emotional, or humorous
1. Tilt-Shift Effect
  • transform your photos into soft works of art
  • creative way! blur one of your photo of the entire image -Filter > Blur Gallery > Tilt-Shift
2. Fake Reflection
  • create a double-exposure with the help of a separate window photo
3. Experiment with simple portraits and details textured
  • combine something plain with something complicated
4. Convert your results to Black & White
  • a lack of colour will strengthen the emotions in your double-exposure images.
5. Work with silhouette
  • anything else that catches your eye can create unique composite images
6. Pick two random photo
  • might create a story of their own, one that others will find encouraging
7. Make simple objects look fascinating

  • take photos of everyday objects you usually take for granted, then try to make them look like something else

8. Shadows
  • go out, take photos of a few shadows, and turn them into something beautiful

This image clearly expresses messages with simple cute icons and stickers. It uses light colours such as pink and blue which create feelings of peace and relaxation, while baking a cake really needs patience. This image also provides a helpful and detailed guide to make a cake, even a novice baker can make a delicious good-looking cake with these step-by-step instructions!

This image is from the print-only children’s section of The New York Times Sunday newspaper. This image included many small “spaces” which express what students do in school places like classrooms, labs and corridors. It uses bright colours and cheerful designs that are intended to make students feel excited about returning to school. This image also features energetic students and their curiosity that makes them feel more positive about learning and education in the upcoming school year.

This poster is more likely a Hong Kong style retro image which uses vibrant colours like red and orange with some daily-used tools elements. This image can evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a past age, and also expresses a feeling of grittiness and energy.
