1. Paragraph Choosing
"Thus far I have faithfully said. But as I pass the barrier in Times path, formed by the death of my beloved, and proceed with the second era of my existence, I feel that a shadow gathers over my brain, and I mistrust the perfect sanity of the record. But let me on. -- Years dragged themselves along heavily, and still I dwelled within the Valley of the Many-Colored Grass; but a second change had come upon all things. The star-shaped flowers shrank into the stems of the trees, and appeared no more. The tints of the green carpet faded; and, one by one, the ruby-red asphodels withered away; and there sprang up, in place of them, ten by ten, dark, eye-like violets, that writhed uneasily and were ever encumbered with dew. And Life departed from our paths; for the tall flamingo flaunted no longer his scarlet plumage before us, but flew sadly from the vale into the hills, with all the gay glowing birds that had arrived in his company. And the golden and silver fish swam down through the gorge at the lower end of our domain and bedecked the sweet river never again. And the lulling melody that had been softer than the wind-harp of Aeolus, and more divine than all save the voice of Eleonora, it died little by little away, in murmurs growing lower and lower, until the stream returned, at length, utterly, into the solemnity of its original silence. And then, lastly, the voluminous cloud uprose, and, abandoning the tops of the mountains to the dimness of old, fell back into the regions of Hesper, and took away all its manifold golden and gorgeous glories from the Valley of the Many-Colored Grass."

I have chosen the 11th paragraph to draw into a comic. It is when after Eleonora died, which is also the climax of the story.
2. Scenes
I highlighted some key scenes in the selected paragraph. The notes attached includes some minor ideas that I might be using later on.
Fig 1.1. Highlighting Scenes, Week 13 (29.6.2023)

I decided to break it into five scenes.
1. Man crying (looking down).
2. Eleonora in a coffin.
3. Funeral overall look - top view. Character: Man, Eleonora, Eleonora's mother.
4. Cloud disappearing.
5. Flowers withered.
3. Layout
Fig 2.1. First Layout, Week 13 (29.6.2023)
Fig 2.1. shows my first attempt for the comic's layout. The black block represents a divider.
However, I think it won't be balanced after animating it.

Fig 2.2. Second Layout, Week 13 (29.6.2023)
I changed the layout and remove the divider. I might want to animate the first and last panel.

5. Animation
I used Adobe Photoshop to animate my comic. I have used 14 art boards for the animation. It is quite struggling because my illustration contains a lot of brushes and it's making my AI lagging. It even quit once and some pages disappeared so I divided them into two files.

I imported them into Photoshop.

Fig 4.3 shows my final GIF outcome of Photoshop. I wasn't satisfied with it because it doesn't run smoothly.

Therefore, I try it on After Effect. I decided to make the whole video ends in 2 seconds. As the video shorter,  the GIF file goes faster.

REFLECTIONS

The biggest problem I'd encountered is the laptop I use. It couldn't function well with multiple brush strokes.
I have Google searched some Marvel comics and watch the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse for this project.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
It helps really much for my colour choosing. It was very fun while exposing myself for idea developments. I found out that I
look at their artworks more than the story when I was watching the movie. I referred to Strawberry Shortcake, PowerPuff Girls, Care Bears, and Marvel's comic and observed some key knowledge that I can apply in my own comic. However, it is quite rushing for this final project. I wish I could done it better if there's more time.
  • Cartoon style - soften difficulty, possibly making the story less upsetting or affecting
  • Detailed and realistic style - viewers experiencing viscerally
  • Detailed but exaggerated style - the effect could become surreal, reshaping the content to affect viewers in unexpected ways
Different images may have different styles depending on the time, place, perspective and even the characters' emotions. Style isn't separate from story-telling, but one of its main tools.

Words are image too! Words also have to be rendered in some kind of style. Many comics artists use computers especially for text, make sure it still relates visually to the images around it while using electronic font.
